The History of Earth: A View in Space

Dr Oliver Shorttle

Summary: Thousands of planets have now been discovered outside our solar system. Fundamental questions about our own planet's history can now be tested not just with the geological record on Earth, but by observations of these new worlds. In this talk we consider Earth’s past, future, and how this may be reflected in observations of objects outside our solar system.

Biographical Note: Dr Shorttle is a lecturer here in Cambridge and a Fellow at Clare College, working jointly between the Institute of Astronomy and Department of Earth Sciences to understand the evolution and habitability of terrestrial planets in the solar system and around other stars.
